2019 WRABF Benchrest World Champs

What is Benchrest?

Benchrest is a shooting sport discipline in which high-precision rifles are rested on a table or bench — rather than being carried in the shooter's hands while shooting at targets. Both the forearm and buttstock of the rifle are usually fully supported by a front and rear rest, so that the firearm can remain stable while pointing at the target without needing to be held by someone. When shooting, the shooter sits behind the bench, operates the action and pulls the trigger. Benchrest shooters are notoriously detail-oriented and constantly trying to further the accuracy potential of their rifle. Many benchrest rifles are custom-made but almost any rifle can be used in accordance with classes of the competition. These include silhouette rifles (e.g. off the shelf 22LR rifle) through to light and heavy varmint rifles.

Pistol Service Match

The Service Pistol match is just one dicipline available at the club. It is a challenging centrefire match that will test not only a shooter’s marksmanship, but a variety of shooting skills. Service Pistol combines longrange and shortrange distances together with both fast-fire and slow-fire and a number of shooting positions. These aspects make these events some of the most challenging in target pistol shooting. The standard match comprises 90 rounds and is shot over four distances – 50, 25, 10 and 7 yards.  Essentially the closer you get to the targets, the quicker you need to shoot. A shooter can elect to shoot the Service Match which requires drawing from a holster and a minimum power factor of 120 or shooting the “Unrestricted” match which has no minimum power factor and commences with the pistol held in the hand at the 45° ready position.
